A Heritage Home, Reimagined for Modern Family Life
This much-loved Victorian home was ready for a new chapter — one that could keep pace with the needs of a growing family while preserving its historic charm. The transformation is both graceful and playful, encouraging connection between people and with the outdoors.
Respecting the home’s heritage was our starting point. The double-fronted façade and front rooms were carefully restored, retaining treasured period details such as picture rails and ornate rose cornices.
A Light-Filled Courtyard at the Heart
A polished timber corridor now leads to a central courtyard — the focal point of the new layout. This outdoor room floods the interior with daylight, especially through a striking double-height void that houses the staircase to the new upper level. The design creates strong visual links between the two floors while enhancing natural ventilation through a thermal chimney effect.
Passive design principles are evident throughout: openable skylights, north-facing windows, and low-energy lighting work together to bring in fresh air, natural light, and energy efficiency.
A Private Retreat Upstairs
The new second storey gives parents a peaceful retreat, with a light-filled master bedroom, walk-in wardrobe, and ensuite. A soft, airy palette and generous glazing create a calm and contemporary atmosphere.
Open Living for a Social Family
The rear extension has transformed the home’s living spaces, introducing a robust open-plan kitchen, a spacious dining area, and a direct connection to the garden. Large timber-framed windows and doors open wide to create seamless indoor–outdoor living — turning what was once a closed and compartmentalised house into a bright, social, and adaptable home for modern family life.
