This project began with a refurbishment to an existing house in Brunswick – making the spaces fresh and contemporary without major changes.
The brief was to make the spaces feel elegant and uncomplicated. Di Mase Architects achieved this through a limited colour palette that placed emphasis on the use of various species of timbers. The project was also a demonstration of how simple spaces can heightened through finely detailed elements. Whether it be the articulation of the folding marble on the breakfast bar, or the spacing of the stair screen – each and every element was given thought and consideration.
The design demonstrates that architecture doesn’t need to be about bold aesthetic or loud design. Instead, Di Mase Architects believes architecture is about the feeling of the spaces we create. Through simple elements the interior atmosphere is crafted, and this is what makes this project a special one.
